Nominal increase in wages of daily wagers cruel joke: NAUP

JAMMU, Apr 28: National Awami United Party (NAUP) president, Sandeep Singh has appealed to Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha to increase minimum wages of daily wagers upto Rs. 850 per day as announcement of increase of Rs. 75 in their old wages of Rs. 225 per day is a cruel joke with them.
In a meeting he also said that J&K is a militancy affected area and vested interests are active here to divert the attention of common people whose survival in lurch.
Sandeep Singh said that prices of essential commodities have gone up alarmingly and the Government has announced Rs. 300 per day for daily wagers.
He urged upon the J&K Lt. Governor for permanent solution for this issue involving local youth of J&K.
Manmohan Sudan, NAUP J&K secretary asked about the criteria of Rs.75 increment to daily wagers.
“Everyone knows that Rs. 300 is not sufficient for the survival of a common man and his family,” he maintained.
Bupinder Sharma, chief spokesperson demanded fresh order for the increase of minimum wages of daily wagers to Rs. 850 per day.
Prominent among those present on the occasion were Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Nater Pal, Parveen Kumar, Ravinder Sharma and others.
