UDHAMPUR, May 1: Displaying a unique example of good police-public relations, the locals of Latti town donated huge land for approach road to the old existing Police Station, public parking for nearly 100 vehicles and a helipad to facilitate the local administration.
Today, nearly 250 meters approach road from Doona side was jointly inaugurated by the local Sarpanch Kasturi Lal Gupta and SHO Police Station Latti, Insp Vijay Thakur in presence of land donors- Rattan Lal and Shiv Ram. The decorated vehicle/Jeep of Police Station, was the first one which reached Thana amidst beating of drum and applauds by the locals of the area through this road.
Not only this, connecting to this road, a large space has been created for helipad for the VIP movement and in the nearby area a large parking space for about 100 vehicles has been created in the town.
Interestingly, on the initiative of local Sarpanch and other Panchayat members, local people generated funds for hiring JCB and executing other construction work through labourers and masons. It was resolved by the local Panchayat that most of the vehicles which were used to be parked on the road side in the town will now be parked in this newly created parking space.
It is pertinent to mention here that this Police Station was created at Latti during 1992 when militants had attacked the town. Since then there was no approach road to the Police Station and police and CRPF vehicles were used to be parked on the road side. This road is about 17 ft wide.
The local Administration including SDM Dudu, Tehsildar and SHO Latti appreciated the gesture of the locals of the area and said that they have presented a unique example for others in the J&K UT.
