KISHTWAR, May 8: Indian Army and Kishtwar Police carried out prompt and daring action to rescue two youths who got stuck in Chenab river at Village Shol in Paddar here today.
As per official spokesman, at about 6 pm yesterday, two youths namely Suneel and Bablu in their JCB got stuck in Chenab river while attempting to cross it.
The soldiers of 17 RR Battalion rushed to the spot immediately when informed about the incident by civil administration.
The water level kept rising and fast flow of the river posed more difficult in the rescue operation.
Two army personnel made a daring attempt to cross the river by rappelling using rope tied for alignment of bridge.
The youths came out of cabin and sat on the roof awaiting rescue. In the rescue operation which ran for 4 to 5 hours, both the youths were finally rescued in pitch dark night.
The villagers, sarpanch and civil administration lauded the effort of Indian Army, police, GREF and District administration for rescuing the youths.
