Leh, May 9: Executive Councillor, LAHDC Kargil, Aga Syed Abbas Razvi, today called on the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, RK Mathur, at Raj Niwas.
EC Razvi briefed about the potential of Suru Valley as a tourist destination, especially among trekkers who are interested in scaling the famous Nun Kun peak. He said the flow of tourists would provide job opportunities to the locals in the tourism sector.
EC Razvi requested the inclusion of two events in the Ladakh Tourism calendar, namely Kapi Mindog or Wild Tulip Festival in early June and Mindog Yaspa or Blooming of Flowers in the month of July. He also requested for assistance and funds in organising these events.
EC Razvi informed that some of the flowers grown in Suru Valley have medicinal values and are being used by Amchis for medicinal purposes. He apprised about the harvesting of traditional honey by the people in Suru valley in the Warwan valley.
EC Razvi expressed his concern over the yellow/brown tail moth infestation and the damage caused by these defoliator insects to the plants. He also informed about the shortage of water for irrigation purposes due to less snowfall in the winter and requested for solar-powered lift systems to water the fields. He apprised about the ongoing Jal Jeevan Mission works in different villages of Kargil district.
