JAMMU, May 10: President All India Jat Maha Sabha (AIJMS) and former Mayor Choudhary Manmohan Singh today asked Jat community members to rise above party politics to jointly fight for getting the OBC status for the community in J&K.
The firebrand Jat leader was chairing the core group meeting of AIJMS here at R S Pura in which Sarpanchs of several border villages participated and assured wholehearted support to the Sabha for the cause of the Jat community. Threadbare discussion was held in the meeting to chalk out a strategy to intensify the fight for getting OBC status for Jat community of J&K, which is being deprived of this right while many other states and the UTs readily extending the same to the Jats of their regions.
Speaking in the meeting, Sarpanch Dev Raj Choudhary vociferously raised the point of discrimination with Jats of J&K when many other states and UTs have already provided justice to this nationalist community which never shirked to even lay its life for the cause of nation.
Raising another significant issue, Sarpanch Gurdayal Majotra said that during the migration, the Government provided custodian land to Jat community but till date the issue of ownership rights is lingering with Government adopting dillydallying policy which the Jats of the region will not tolerate anymore. He demanded immediate action in favour of Jats in the matter.
Sobha Singh asked the members of Jat community to get united under the umbrella of All India Jat Maha Sabha as presently the community is divided by their association with different political outfits.
Gurmeet Singh Bajwa asserted that every single Jat in the Union Territory is standing shoulder to shoulder with Choudhary Manmohan Singh in the fight for justice to the community. He assured the former Mayor that he would made people aware about the benefit of OBC certificate by visiting village to village.
