REASI, May 18: A violent clash occurred recently between two students’ groups in Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, which is being probed by the disciplinary committee of the Varsity with University authorities assuring the parents of the students of taking strict action against the guilty and ensuring that no such incident happens in future.
According to the reports, a scuffle broke out over a cultural program between some junior and senior students of the University in the hostel during night hours recently on two consecutive days and about 4-5 students received injuries in these violent episodes. As a result, panic gripped the students of the University as well as their parents who were concerned about the safety of their wards in the University campus.
The concerned parents yesterday met Registrar of the University Nagendra Singh Jamwal and sought assurance that no such incident will be happened in the University campus in the future and their wards will get a safe and secure environment to study.
However, after the meeting with the Registrar, parents expressed dissatisfaction. “First, we want to meet Vice Chancellor but despite wait of several hours, we were not allowed to meet him after which we met Registrar of the University and demanded him to give us written assurance that our wards are safe here but he refused to give us any written assurance,” the angry parents said.
When contacted, Registrar of the University said that the matter is being probed by the Disciplinary Committee of the Varsity comprising Dean Sciences, Dean Students Welfare, Dean Academics and HoD School of Languages & Literature which has collected all evidences related to the case. He said the probe will be taken to its logical conclusion and the guilty will be punished.
“This was an unfortunate incident and we will ensure that no such incident happens in the University campus in future and for this we are taking all confidence building measures, enhancing security in the campus and installing more CCTVs in the Varsity,” Jamwal added.
