HYDERABAD, June 9: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today took YSR Congress Party President Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy into custody and began further grilling in the disproportionate assets case against him.
The CBI officials reached Chanchalguda Central Jail where the Kadapa MP was lodged under Judicial remand till June 11 and took him in a black bullet-proof vehicle to CBI office at Koti where tight security arrangements have been made.
The CBI will be questioning Mr Jagan for two days from today in presence of his lawyers after the Andhra Pradesh High Court accepting the investigating agency’s request for granting Mr Jagan’s custody.
The court directed the CBI to grill Mr Jagan from 1030 hrs to 1700 hrs and take him back to jail thereafter.
The CBI will be also questioning Jagathi Publications Limited Vice-Chairman Vijay Sai Reddy today and tomorrow along with Mr Jagan in the illegal assets case.
High Court Judge Justice B Chandra Kumar while granting police custody of Mr Jagan yesterday had asked CBI counsel Ashok Bhan what had the investigating agency done during the last ten months after the probe in the case was started?.
Mr Bhan said the conspiracy spread to foreign countries and had a long trail. The Judge said five days of custody granted by the court on June 2 was not a short period. If the CBI had not achieved anything so far, it could hardly get fresh information for another two days, the Judge said.
The CBI counsel said Mr Jagan was evasive and trying to pass the buck. The investigating agency had new material to confront him (Mr Jagan), the counsel said.
The CBI is likely to question Mr Jagan on allotment of lime stone mines and additional water to few cement companies including, India Cements, Penna Cement and others which had invested in Jagan’s companies.
It is also like to grill about the investments pumped into Janani Infra, Jagathi Publications and Bharti Cements from Pasim Company Switzerland and from Shell Companies–2i Capital, PCc,flurry energy PCC from Marutius into Sandur Power owned by Jagan Mohan Reddy.
The High Court had earlier granted five days custody to the CBI from June 3 and the investigating agency had grilled Mr Jagan on various aspects of the illegal assets case in the presence of his lawyers.
