JAMMU, Sept 5: Teachers Day, the birth anniversary of Sarvepalli Dr Radha Krishnan was celebrated with great pomp and show across Jammu province.
Describing teachers like beacon lights, Minister of State for Health, Shabir Ahmad Khan today said that they are nation builders and have pivotal role in shaping life of students, adding that the relation between a teacher and a student is a sacred relation and we owe a lot to this sacred relationship.
Minister said this while addressing in a function organized by Gandhi Global Family in connection with the Teachers Day celebrations at Tyndale Biscoe School Srinagar here today.
Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem-ul-Rehman, President Gandhi Global Family, SP Verma, Director, Principal, staff and students of Biscoe School were present on the occasion.
SP Verma and others also spoke on the occasion and threw light upon the celebrations of the day.
On the occasion, teacher of Tyndale Biscoe School Aftab Ahmad Shah was awarded best teacher for the year 2012-13 from Gandhi Global Family.
Jammu University Teacher’s Association (JUTA) celebrated Teachers Day at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, University of Jammu. Prof Mohan Pal Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor of the University was the chief guest, while Dean Academic Affairs Prof Neelam Saraf was the guest of honour. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Ishar requests the teachers to fulfill their teaching assignment to the best to their ability. Earlier, Dr Rakesh Vaid, general secretary, JUTA welcomed the gathering and highlighted the significance and relevance of Teachers’ Day in context of society and nation building. Prof JP Singh Joorel, President JUTA also deliberated on the role of the teachers in building of the society. The JUTA felicitated the teachers, who superannuated during the year 2012-2013 for their selfless and dedicated services by presenting a mementos which included Prof VP Magotra, Ramesh Magotra and Romesh Sharma. Dr Vivek Sharma, treasurer JUTA, Dr Kavita Suri, Vice president, Dr Vijay Sehgal, Joint secretary, JUTA president Prof Yousaf Ganai, Registrar Prof Manoj Dhar, Controller Examination Prof Keshav Sharma, Director DDE Prof VD Singh, Director CDC Prof Deshbandhu, various Rectors, Deans, Heads and teachers of various departments were also present.
Division of Fruit Science, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology (SKUAST), Jammu, celebrated Teacher’s Day. Dr VK Wali, Prof and Head, Fruit Science and Dr Parshant Bakshi, Associate Professor, Fruit Science, highlighted the importance of the Day. All the teachers of the faculty were honoured by Dr VK Bali. A cultural programme was also organized on the occasion.
Post Graduate Department of Geography, Jammu University (JU) celebrated Teachers’ Day and organized a function to honour the teaching staff and Head of Department. Students performed cultures items and entertain the audience. HoD Prof VS Manhas stressed upon the quality of the education. The whole cultural program was coordinated by Navjot Bakshi and Rahul Prasher. Kathua Campus, University of Jammu celebrated Teachers Day with great pomp and show, in which students of both MBA and MCA participated enthusiastically. Prof Neelu Rohmetra, Rector, Kathua Campus, University of Jammu threw light on the importance of the day and also highlighted the teachings of Sarvepalli Dr Radha Krishnan. On the occasion, students presented various cultural items and games. Among others present were Dr Vivek Sharma, Dr Jyoti Sharma, Dr Naresh Sharma, Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh, Pankaj Khajuria, Viney Kesar, Isha Sharma, Deepak Gupta, Suresh Singh, Surbhi Gupta and Amit.
Teacher’s Day was celebrated at Government Degree College (GDC) Surankote, in which large number of academicians, scholars, staff and students participated. GDC Thana Mandi celebrated Teachers Day with full fervour and gaiety. Addressing the NSF members, Vice Chancellor highlighted the role of teachers in the students’ life.
All Education Employees’ Welfare Committee, Zone Khour, celebrated Teachers Day by felicitating the retired employees of Education Department of Zone Khour, in a function organized at Government Higher Secondary School, Khour. A total of 10 retirees were felicitated on the occasion for their excellent services provided to the department.

BIG FM 92.7 Jammu came out with a very interactive and unique activity to celebrate Teachers Day called ‘Kaun Banega Favourite Teacher’. As part of this interacting activity, the RJs of the Station went around in different schools of the city with pseudo ballot boxes and requested students to drop a vote in the ballot for their favourite teacher.
