UDHAMPUR, May 31: Up in arms against opening of a wine shop near Iskcon temple in Udhampur, devotees and locals held a strong protest demonstration and blocked the Dhar road till this evening.
The day-long protest demonstration and road blockade continued till late 9 pm and the protesting people lifted the dharna only after Additional DC personally visited the spot and assured necessary action.
Earlier, in this afternoon, a large number of followers of Iskcon, including woman and men, assembled in front of the newly opened wine shop and held massive protest demonstration. They blocked the Dhar road for several hours and demanded permanent closure of the wine shop near the temple.
Later, in the evening, Addl DC Udhampur, Mohammad Syed Khan and Tehsildar Amit Verma along with SHO Udhampur, Inspector Chaman Gorkha visited the spot and pacified the protesting people by assuring necessary.
