378 vehicles challaned, compounded, Rs 2,77,100 realised as fine

JAMMU, June 4: A major drive was launched by Motor Vehicle Department (MVD) teams headed by the respective RTOs and ARTOs in the districts for checking instances of overloading of passenger vehicles and enforcing compulsory affixation of High Security Registration Plates (HSRPs) across different places of Jammu Division.
In Jammu District, a team of the officers of the MVD headed by ARTO BOI-G Jammu Pawan Sharma conducted physical checking of motor vehicles under the supervision of RTO Jammu at different places on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
During the drive, 187 vehicles were checked, out of which 43 vehicles especially passenger buses and tempo travellers were found either overloaded or loaded with goods in violation of the MV Act. The vehicles were challaned and compounded on spot. During the drive, an amount of Rs 1.32 lakh was recovered by the violators on the spot.
In Samba, 58 vehicles were challaned and a fine of Rs 37,000 was realised from the violators and Rs 18,000 is expected from the remaining challans. In Udhampur, 57 vehicles were challaned/compounded and fine to the tune of Rs 14500 was realised from the violators. In Doda, 92 vehicles were checked out of which 27 were found either overloaded or without fitment of HSRP and challaned on the spot.
In Reasi, 5 vehicles were challaned for not affixation of HSRP and incomplete documents. Similarly 5 vehicles were also seized due to deficient documents and without HSRP affixation. During the drive, Rs 6000 fine was also realised from the violators.
In Kishtwar, 12 vehicles were found violating MV Act and without affixation of HSRP and fine to the tune of Rs 6000 was realised. In Rajouri, 26 vehicles were challaned and 13 vehicles offence were compounded and fine of Rs 18000 was realised. In Ramban, 28 vehicles were challaned/compounded and fine to the tune of Rs 12100 was recovered. In Kathua, 89 vehicles were challaned/compounded and a fine of Rs 51500 was realised from the violators.
