School buses flout guidelines

Sir,
I am writing as a very worried and responsible citizen who hopes to be heard through this newspaper.
My concern is for the people residing in the narrow lanes who feel insecure and unsafe because of school buses, who are being instructed to provide door-to-door pick and drop service for their school children at the cost of lives of the people residing in such lanes. One such case is of Hotel Ritz Manor lane in Channi Himmat, which is quite narrow for heavy vehicles, but a school bus daily passes that lane for ferrying its school children and thereby taking away one’s right to move freely and safely.
I sincerely hope to get this point across to the concerned authorities not to allow the school buses to enter the lanes which is not only hazardous for the residents but also for the stray animals that rest in these lanes. Due to shortage of space, it could even hit the boundary walls and private vehicles that are parked outside the houses. In a bid to ensure safe travelling and avert mishaps, the school buses should be instructed to pickup and drop-off their school children at the designated stops on the thoroughfares.
I would request the State Transport Authority to conduct surprise inspections of school buses to check violations of Supreme Court guidelines and Motor Vehicle Act and demanding strict action against the school authorities for their negligence and flouting of safety norms. It is earnestly hoped that concerned authorities will take immediate and urgent necessary action.
Above all, public needs to be aware and cooperative because without public cooperation authorities cannot make much difference. The people in order to avoid occurrence of tragic incidents in our locality, should not allow large vehicles to enter into the lanes and should complain the authorities concerned if the need arises.
Yours etc….
