Heroin, poppy straw recovered; 3 narcotic smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, June 16: In success against narcotics smuggling, Udhampur Police today recovered 50 grams of Heroin from two drug peddlers, who were arrested from Jakhani area while 25 kg poppy straw was seized from a truck at Chenani.
Heroin was recovered from the accused, identified as Niklesh Goswami, son of Anand Kumar, resident of Near Bus Stand Udhampur and Purshotam Kumar, son of Bagh Mal of Sui, Udhampur , who were travelling in a vehicle (Tiago) bearing registration number JK14G-8924, which was coming from Samroli towards Udhampur.
The vehicle was intercepted by a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Inspector Chaman Gorka, under the supervision of Sahil Mahajan, DySP Hqrs Udhampur during a naka at Jakhani. During checking of the said vehicle, 50 grams of Heroin like substance was recovered from the possession of accused persons.
Police arrested both the accused and seized the recovered Heroin. In this connection, a case FIR number 261/2022, under section 8/21/22 NDPS Act has been registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation is underway.
Meanwhile, in another success, Police today recovered 25 kg of poppy straw from a truck at Motor Shed naka in Chenani. The poppy straw was hidden in tool box of the truck, bearing registration number PB10BZ- 3076.
Police seized the poppy straw and arrested driver of the truck, who was identified as Mohd Rustam, son of Mohd Noor of Balian, Sangrur, Punjab. In this regard, a case FIR number 107/2022, under section 8/15 NDPS Act has been registered in PS Chenani. The Police party was headed by SHO PS Chenani, Inspector Om Parkash under the supervision of SDPO Chenani Ahmed Shaafi. The overall drive was conducted under the supervision of SSP Udhampur Dr Vinod Kumar.
