Efforts afoot to extend road connectivity to rural areas: Wani

SRINAGAR, Sept 11: Minister for Roads & Buildings Abdul Majid Wani today laid the foundation for upgradation of Pattan-Trikoulbal Hanjiwara road at Gund Ibrahim Mundyari today.
The 10.5 kilometres road project would be constructed by R&B Department by utilizing Rs. 3.75 crore under NABARD (RIDF) and is expected to be completed within three years.
The Minister, who was on a day-long tour of Baramulla District, inspected various developmental projects and took stock of the pace of works being executed under R&B sector in the district.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the importance of road connectivity, saying that it directly linked with socio-economic transformation   of people and holistic development of the State. He said that the development and upgradation of road communication is receiving focussed attention of the Government, adding that various steps have been initiated in this regard. He said, besides R&B Department, various Central Government agencies have also been engaged for execution of some mega road projects in the state for ensuring cent per cent road connectivity.
Mr. Wani said that hundreds of new bridges and vital road links have been constructed and existing ones have been metalled and upgraded to provide easy accessibility to the people living in remote and far-off areas for ensuring their growth and development.
During the day-long tour, the Minister also inspected Government District Hospital, District Court Complex, Macadam Plant Veerwan and Jetty Bridge.
At Government District Hospital, the Minister was informed that the project spreading over 248 kanals of land would be executed by JK PCC by utilizing Rs. 65.89 crore in two phases by 2015.
The Phase-I of the project comprising of OPD and IPD blocks, 2 OTs, space for 200 beds  and diagnostic block has been completed and functional. While as, the work on Phase-II, which comprises of 8 OTs, space for 100 beds, IPD and residential blocks is going-on in full swing.
The Minister also inspected District Court Complex and took stock of pace of work.
Responding to the demands of lawyers, the Minister asked for submission of proposal for construction of lawyers chambers.
The Minister also inspected Jetty Bridge and took stock of pace of work on it. The work on Rs. 21.37 crore double lane Jetty bridge, which is being constructed over river Jehlum at Baramulla, was restarted by JKPCC in July this year.  The Minister directed the executing agency for accelerating the pace of construction work.
Earlier, the Minister also chaired a joint meeting of officers of R&B Department, PMGSY, and JKPCC. The Minister got first hand appraisal of status of works project-wise, scheme-wise and sector-wise.
The meeting was informed that an amount of Rs. 15 crore has been allocated under R&B sector for current fiscal, of which Rs. 1.90 crore is State share and Rs. 13.10 crore under NABARD for 235 schemes. As many as 15 roads projects are expected to be completed by this fiscal and an amount of Rs. 30.35 lakh have been expended so for on on-going schemes under R&B scetor, the meeting was informed.
The meeting informed that the work on 34 bridges is going-on in the district for which an amount of Rs. 12.6 crore has been earmarked and work on 7 bridges is expected to be completed by this year.
Legislators, Javaid Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Ashraf, Ghulam Nabi Monga and Mohammad Muzaffar Parray also present in the meeting and projected the demands relating to R&B sector of their respective areas.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla, G A Khawja  Chief Engineer, R&B Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad Lone,  Chief Engineer, PMGSY Heemal, Chief Engineer, Mechanical Engineering, Shafat Chisti, Managing Director, JK PCC T R Bhagat, besides Deputy General Managers, JK PCC, senior engineers of R&B and PMGSY attended the meeting.
