Education Deptt headless in five districts

Excelsior Correspondent
Srinagar, Sept 12: Belying the claims of the Government for providing quality education in the State, Education Department in five districts of Kashmir is headless for the past six months and the charge has been given to Principals of different District Institute of Education Training (DIET).
Sources told EXCELSIOR that Chief Education Officers’ (CEO) posts are lying vacant in Srinagar, Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Ganderbal districts.
Majority of the CEOs are attached with the Directorate of School Education (DSEK), Kashmir, and surprisingly, these posts have been assigned to Principals of different DIET as additional charges.
Since the DIET principals function from their offices as CEOs, students, teachers and others employees of the department are facing lot of trouble to get their problems addressed.
“We are still waiting for permanent CEO, who would solve our problems” said Mehraj Din, a teacher.
Sources said work in Education Departments in Bandipora and Kupwara districts have come almost to a standstill in absence of proper heads.
Director Education, Mir Tariq Ali, said that keeping the departments headless doesn’t affect the delivery of education in these districts as the incharge CEOs “handle work smoothly.”
