JAMMU, Sept 12: Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri, Ashok Sharma today awarded rigorous life imprisonment to SPO Mohd Shakoor, son of Wazir Mohd of Choudhary Nar, Rajouri for killing his colleague Mohd Ishaq.
According to the police case, on February 1, 2005 the accused SPO killed Constable Mohd Ishaq by firing at him with his official Self Loading Rifle (SLR). Accordingly, the accused was apprehended and after completion of investigation challan was presented in the court of law.
After hearing both the sides, Principal Sessions Judge Rajouri observed, “from the facts of the case, it becomes amply clear that the accused nourished a grudge as the deceased had a tiff with him a day earlier and slapped him. The manner in which the accused killed the deceased does not call for any lenient view to be taken in his favour”.
“Nevertheless this is not rarest of rare case, hence extreme death penalty cannot be awarded to him”, the court said while awarding rigorous life-imprisonment and fine of Rs 20,000 to the accused. In default of payment of fine he will further undergo simple imprisonment for three months, which will be concurrent with life imprisonment. However, the sentence will be executed only after it is confirmed by the High Court.
