4 killed in Tata Sumo mishap

RAJOURI, Sept 12: Four persons including a jawan of  2nd battalion of  the Indian Reserve Police (IRP) were killed and two others including driver critically injured after a Tata Sumo  skidded off the road and fell into a deep gorge in Zajnar area of Mughal Road today.
The mishap took place this afternoon when the ill-fated Tata Sumo bearing registration No. JK-11/ 0585 was on its way to Srinagar from Rajouri. Most of the passengers travelling in it were from Rajouri area. Due to some mechanical failure, the vehicle  went out of control between Peer Gali and Dubjan and rolled down into nearly 600 meter deep gorge. The vehicle nearly turned into a wreckage and torn apart into pieces.
The passengers onboard scattered into the gorge and the slopes as the vehicle continued taking turns and finally landed into a deep nallah. Four dead bodies could be recovered from the gorge while two critically injured were removed from the gorge after long rescue operation by police and some locals of the area.
Immediately after the incident police party from Heerpur Police Post on Mughal Road led by a Sub Inspector rushed to the site. Four dead bodies were removed from  the deep gorge and from their I-cards their identity could be established. All the four belonged to Dudasan Balla in Rajouri. Their bodies were later removed to Rajouri. They were identified as Mohd Azhar (27), son of  Mohd Ashraf ( Jawan of IRP 2nd Bn), Sher Ali (22), son of Mohd Ali, Mohd Juned (29), son of Wazir Hussain and Mohd Rashid alias Sheeda, hailing from Dudasan Balla, Rajouri.
Two critically injured persons were identified as Mohd Shakeel, driver of the vehicle from Dudasan Balla in Rajouri  and Rayaz Ahmed of  Shopian. Both the injured were rushed to Soura Institute of Medical Sciences at Srinagar. Their condition was stated to be critical.  Shopian police has registered a case in this connection. Bodies of the deceased persons were sent to Rajouri after conducting postmortem and conducting legal formalities.  At Bafliaz, nearly 11 passengers  were noticed onboard the vehicle. It was apprehended that either some of the passengers had dropped at different locations before Pir ki Gali or gone missing. The police was investigating.
