JAMMU, June 24: Jammu and Kashmir Dairy Farmers Association held protest in front of JKMPCL office over burning issue of milk procuring price.
Amid slogans, the protestors said that Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs had notified its milk rate in 2019 which was revised in 2022 after seeking quotations from the farmers.

On 20 May 2022, rate was approved at Rs 44 per kg procuring whereas it was at Rs 34 per kg in 2019, the protestors said.
Chairman Jeet Ram Choudhary said that JKMPCL is a UT cooperative unit was taken over by Amul in 2013 for one year but it is still commanding the show. It is the only player at present to collect milk from the farmers and dairy owners. It has revised its collection rate on 25 May 2022 at Rs 0.85 and its overall rate has been fixed as Rs 33 whereas Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs has been fixed as Rs 44 with 3.5 fat i.e. Rs 11 as excess.
President Dairy Farmers Association Kulbhushan Khajuria said farmers are even being paid less than Rs 33 with weigh errors along with fat and SNF. Issue was brought into the notice of CEO few days back who had responded in a rude way. Farmers demanded the apology from CEO for his misconduct.
Khajuria further said that authorized milk collection centres of Amul often use to bargain with the farmers by late payments and sale of the Amul cattle feed and ghee. Innocent farmers have to bear exploitation on multiple fronts which must be stopped immediately, he added.
Sandeep Singh Chib President Jammu Province said that JKMPCL should revise rates for survival of milk producers.
