Compensate Gujjars, Bakerwals for losses: Hakla to Govt

POONCH, June 26: Shamsher Hakla Poonchi the Prominent Gujjar leader and an intellectual has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to provide compensation and immediate relief to these Gujjars and Bakarwals staying in the dhoks and upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir whose cattle, sheep and goat perished in the recent hailstorm and snow in upper reaches of the UT to cover up their losses.
Hakla said that the Gujjars and Bakarwals of Jammu & Kashmir go to Dhoks and upper reaches of the UT for six months every year as per their seasonal movement during Summer season and this year also, they did the same and went along with their families, cattle, goats, sheep and other domestic animals but a large number of cattle, goats, sheep and other domestic animals of Gujjars and Bakarwals died due to heavy rains and untimely snowfall in the dhoks and upper reaches of Jammu and Kashmir few days back due to which they had to face a big loss as they lost a large number of source of their livelihood.
To overcome the losses to some extent the Government should pay immediate compensation to these families he added.
