NOWSHERA, June 10: Over eighty (80) families of Loharakote area of Sunderbani, who have rented out their land to the Army have been suffering financial losses due to apathy of Defence Estates Office (DEO) Jammu on account of non-revision of their rent payment.
Seeking intervention of the Dy Commissioner Rajouri into the matter, these nearly 80 families have claimed that after their land came under Municipal Limit Sunderbani on May 20, 2009 through a notification under SRO 140, they approached the concerned DEO authorities at Jammu and Command Headquarters Udhampur for the review of the rent of the land being given to the people of this area to Army but they maintained silence.
Despite several representations through Tehsildar and Municipal authorities as well, no action in this regard has been taken by the Defence Estates authorities. They still continued to pay the rent on the old rates of rural area. According to aggrieved families, in rural areas the yearly rent per kanal of fallow land is Rs 1350 and Rs 895 per kanal of non-agricultural land whereas, in urban/ Municipal areas the rate per kanal is Rs 13,900 per kanal. They said entire Loharkote village has now been included in Municipal limits but the DEO authorities were still denying the actual rate of rent.
