SRINAGAR, June 27: National Conference (NC) women wing president Shameema Firdous said that NC has always been on the frontline in the struggle to ensure women’s safety, security, representation, empowerment, and equality.
She made these comments while welcoming scores of women from Srinagar areas into party fold at Nawa-e-Subha, Srinagar. Provincial president women wing Sabiya Qadri, senior women wing leader Aisha Jameel, district president Kupwara Mehmooda and Rabiya Wani were also present on the occasion.
Those who joined the party include Hina, Shafiya, Hafiza from Haba Kadal and Dilshada, Asiya, Bisma, Mehak, Saima and Sumera from Batamaloo. During the breadth of their interaction with the women wing leaders, the new entrants positioned their faith in the party leadership.
In her address, Shameema Firdous said that women have a larger role to play in politics. “NC has long ago recognized women’s voices and involved them in decision making at all levels. There are a lot more women leaders in our party now. We need women’s touch to political decisions to have resultant policies more attuned to the needs of our daughters, mothers, and sisters in urban as well as rural areas,” she said adding, “It is elevating to see educated women join us in rows from different walks of life. I hope that the new joining will help us actualise the progressive vision of Madre Meharban.”
Praising the role of Madre Meharban, Sabiya Qadri said that the efforts of Madre Meharban bore anticipated results in improving the self-confidence, voice and political standing of women across J&K. “We have to take the mission envisioned by her to its logical conclusion by ensuring women’s participation in politics to its fullest,” she said.
