JAMMU, June 29: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Regional Office, Jammu & Kashmir today organized a unique mega concert of local flavour “Dogri & Punjabi Sangeet” by promising artist Alka Anil Mahajan & Group under “Kala Vishwa” at Government Polytechnic College, Vikram Chowk, Jammu.
A galaxy of music lovers witnessed the mega show with a great zeal and enthusiasm. The event began with lighting of traditional lamp by Regional Director ICCR and Regional Passport Officer Jammu N K Shil and other dignitaries present in the Hall.
Chander Mohan Gupta, Mayor JMC Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion and other notables present were Mrs Gupta 1st lady of Jammu City, Dr Arvind Singh Aman (additional secretary, J&K Academy of Art, Culture and languages), Anil Masood (Corporator) and Kamaljit Kour Sandhu (Commandant CRPF).
The performance started with Dogri songs “Udiya Kaleya Kawan” followed by “Sanu Nehar Wale Pool Te Bulake” and “Chatney Timru Di” by Alka Anil Mahajan which enthralled everyone in the audience with her powerful medley of singing. Those who accompanied the team were also the genius in their respective instruments. They included Bishan Dass (Music Director), Rakesh Jasotra (Flute), Chandan (Synth), Joginder Pal (Tabla) and Rajat Kumar (Octopad).
Earlier presenting welcome address, N K Shil said that ICCR, a cultural wing of Union Ministry of External Affairs mainly seeks to enhance India’s soft diplomatic power worldwide and boost India’s skills of cultural diplomacy as well as to bring the whole nation closer through cultural and educational initiatives/exchanges.
With a view to achieve this objective, he said, ICCR tries to develop and strengthen inter-cultural bond, enhance mutual understanding and promote harmonious relationships between India and other countries and its people through such cultural and educational initiatives. He said at the same time, ICCR makes efforts to promote local art and culture, and budding artists in the field of art, music, dance and drama by providing them opportunity to showcase their talents.
The programme concluded with vote of thanks presented by Reena Salathia, Cultural Officer, ICCR, Regional Office, Jammu.
