Sangat seeks security for Sikh minorities in Valley

JAMMU, Sept 14: Kashmir Sikh Sangat (KSS) in a meeting here today has taken strong exception to the failure of the State Government to ensure the safety and security of the minority Sikh community residing in South Kashmir.
While expressing concern over recent attack on Gurudwara and the houses of Sikhs living in Shopian, S Manjit Singh president of the organization made an appeal to Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to ensure the safety of life and property of minority community residing in Kashmir Valley and also take immediate steps to prevent any damage to religious properties of Sikhs in Kashmir.
The meeting also made an appeal to Hurriyat Conference leaders and other organizations active in Kashmir to take serious note of the situation by using their all means and good offices to prevent any mishap in future. The meeting expressed the hope that the fabric of secularism and communal harmony should prevail and keep the tradition of Kashmiriyat alive.
The Sangat in an appeal to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has also urged him to ensure the safety and security of minorities in Kashmir.
The meeting among others was attended by S Karamjeet Singh, general secretary of Sangat, S Balbir Singh, STP Singh, S J B Singh, S Jagjeet Singh, S KN Singh and S Babu Singh.
