JAMMU, July 5: A rare and difficult Endourological surgery was performed successfully on a middle aged woman at JK Medicity Hospital.
The 45-year old female patient who was bedridden since birth due to polio and spinal deformity (severe Khyposcoliosis) had developed a large kidney stone (about 3.5 cm in size) about a year ago and was in excruciating pain since last 3 months. She consulted many Urologists of Jammu for surgery but most of them refused as surgery in such cases is difficult due to anatomical inaccessibility. Finally, she was referred to PGI Chandigarh for Surgery.
All of sudden on some body’s reference they met Dr Ranjeet Singh Rathore, senior Urologist at ASCOMS Batra, at his private clinic in Jammu. Dr Rathore took up the challenge of operating such difficult case and after detailed evaluation of the case, the patient was operated successfully at JK Medicity hospital by Dr Rathore. He was assisted by OT technicians Dev Raj and Arshad. Anaesthesia was given by Dr Pawan Bhardwaj and his team. The Patient is doing well post operatively and was discharged on second post operative day.
Owner of the Hospital, Dr Gagan expressed happiness over the successful efforts of Dr Ranjeet and his team. It is pertinent to mention here that surgery in cases of spinal deformity (khyphoscoliosis) is extremely difficult due to difficulty in positioning the patient and selecting Calyx for puncture because of danger of injuring surrounding viscera such as colon and lungs as we have to approach in between the ribs due to abnormal higher position of kidney.
