NEW DELHI, Sept 16: The Wholesale Price Index (WPI) for the month of August has risen to 6.1 per cent as compared to 5.79 per cent for the previous month, an official statement said today.
The headline inflation during the corresponding month of the previous year stood at 8.01 per cent.
The food inflation for the month rose to 18.18 per cent as compared to 11.91 per cent in July, Ministry of Commerce and Industry said.
The index for ‘food article’ group rose to 5.3 per cent month due to higher price of fish-inland, fruits & vegetables, ragi and beef & buffalo meat, milk and rice, mutton, poultry chicken and pork.
However, the price of bajra and gram, tea, jowar and moong, egg and masur declined.
