KATHUA, July 8: Farmers in border belt of Hiranagar Sector of Kathua district today started sowing of third crop on their land across the fence on Indo Pak border, the area which was lying barren for almost last 20 years due to unprovoked firing from across the border.
The Director Agriculture, KK Sharma who along with District Development Commissioner, Kathua Rahul Pandey and other civil and BSF officers were present on the occasion said that this is third crop of pulses going to be cultivated on Zero Line to encourage the farming in border area to enhance their income. “We are going to cultivate every inch border land from Poonch to Kathua . We are encouraging the farmer for integrated farming, use of latest machinery to reduce the cost of farming to enhance income in agriculture production”, he added.

The Director Agriculture KK Sharma, DC Kathua Rahul Pandey , CAO, Sanjeev Rai and DAO, Raju Mahajan in association with BSF officials and farmers inaugurated the sowing and started the pulses cultivation on Zero Line of Hiranagar Sector in Kathua district to encourage cultivation in border area. The Agriculture Department is going to cultivate 200 Acres of land on Zero Line across the fencing on International Border of Hiranagar Sector in Kathua district. In recent past successful cultivation of Wheat crop gave good yield and farmers got benefit of it.
Nearly 2000 acres of land is lying barren on Zero Line since last 20 years due to unprovoked Pakistan firing.
Director Agriculture KK Sharma also inaugurated the New Sub Divisional Agriculture Office at Kathua . He also gave key of tractor to a farmer on the occasion.
