Hypnotic drug worth millions seized, 3 held

JAMMU, July 10: In first of its kind, Miran Sahib Police arrested three persons including a notorious drug peddler along with sedative hypnotic drug worth millions.
Divulging the details, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli said that a team from Police Station Miran Sahib led by SHO Inspector Zaheer Mushtaq under the supervision of SDPO RS Pura Surinder Singh and SP Headquarters Ramnish Gupta laid a naka and intercepted a motorcycle bearing registration number JK21G-4156, which was on its way from Bishnah towards Miran Sahib.
During checking, police team recovered 700 grams of sedative hypnotic drug (Methaqualone) worth millions from the possession of three persons riding on the motorcycle and arrested them, the SSP said, adding that the arrested persons were identified as Paramjeet Singh alias Sunny, son of Labh Singh of Ward Number 4 Simbal Camp, Mohd Saleem, son of Hashim Din of Bari Brahmana district Samba and Farooq Parvana, son of Zaheer of Teli Basti Bari Brahmana district Samba.
He further stated that the accused namely Paramjeet alias Sunny was a notorious/ desperate drug peddler and was wanted in many different cases and was also evading his arrest from past few years, adding that this seizure is believed to be one of its kind in Jammu district and its market value is pegged to be running in millions.
Moreover, he said that relentless efforts were put in by Jammu Police in arresting such notorious peddlers.
“A case under FIR Number 73/2022 under section 8/22/29/60 NDPS Act has been registered against these three arrested persons at Police Station Miran Sahib and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons involved in this illegal trade”, the SSP added.
