JAMMU, July 13: Avinash Rai Khanna, Ex MP and Prabhari Himachal Pradesh BJP, has demanded connecting Jammu and Pathankot with Chandigarh through rail.
In a letter, written to the Union Minister of Railways, Communication, Electronics & Information Technology, Avinash Rai Khanna, has mentioned that train from Hoshiarpur to Delhi passes through Chandigarh and similarly train from Amritsar to Delhi also passes through Chandigarh. He said that Chandigarh is the capital of Punjab and people from across the State have to visit Chandigarh in connection with different official and private works. As there is no rail service from Pathankot to Chandigarh, large number of people face inconveniences to travel.
Khanna said that currently a number of trains ply from Jammu to Delhi daily and the Railway Ministry should make arrangement for train leaving from Jammu to pass through Chandigarh enroute Delhi. It will provide relief to a large population.
Making a fervent appeal to the Union Minister for action on priority, Khanna said that by making change in route of a train from Jammu to Delhi to make it ply through Chandigarh will not require the Department to lay separate rail line, he said, adding that it will also not cause any financial burden on the ministry.
