JAMMU, July 13: Kashmiri Pandits observed July 13 as Black Day in protest against the atrocities committed on the minority Hindus in Valley on this day in 1931.
Various KP organisations held get-togethers at Jagti township and other parts of Jammu as well as New Delhi in which the speakers termed the July 13 of 1931 was the Blackest Day in the history of Kashmiri Hindus when the revolt by the communalist elements took place against the then Maharaja on the instigation of Abdul Qadir a cook of an British Officer and the rampaging mob attacked minority Hindus, killed some members of the community, looted their properties and torched their houses.
They said instead of condemning these barbaric acts of the communal forces the J&K Government declared July 13 as Martyrs’ Day and announced an official holiday on this day.
Addressing a function of social activists at Bohri today Ashok Kangan a senior KP leader said the credit goes to the present BJP Government at Delhi led by PM, Narendra Modi who abolished the July 13 holiday. He termed the Modi Government decision a historic step. The meeting was also attended by senior leaders H L Bhat, Bushan Lal Bhat, Moti Lal Bhat, Chand Ji Bhat and others.
As usual Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) observed July 13, as “Black Day” by wearing black badges and head gears as a mark of protest against the atrocities and human right violations of Kashmiri Pandit community.
While observing this day as Black Day, Kundan Kashmiri, president KPC stated that July, 13, 1931, exodus and Martyrs Day of the community are unforgettable as genocide of Hindu minorities in real sense started from this day.
These were days of turbulences when the wall of trust between Kashmiri Muslims and Kashmiri Pandits fell down all of the sudden and turned into rubble. There was complete collapse of brotherhood and whole Kashmir witnessed a frenzy temperamental change leading towards madness, insanity culminating in unexpected behavioural change in their mind set.
KPC leaders also pledged that they will continue to protest and demonstrate their anguish till they are properly heard and justice delivered and achieve their goal of one place settlement in Valley ( Seperate Kashyap Bhoomi)
Other KPC leaders and activists who participated in the protest included HL Saraf, Susheel Bhat, MK Raina, Tej Pandita, R.L.Raina , SLZuthsi, Surinder Bhat etc.
All India Migrant Camp Coordination Committee (AIMCCC) also observed July 13 as Black Day and termed it the beginning of exodus of Hindu minorities from Valley.
Addressing the meeting Desh Rattan said that the successive governments in the erstwhile State of J&K patronised these forces who later took the ugly shape in 1990 and waged a war against the country. He said the so called movement started against Maharaja was not any independence movement but a communal movement in nature.
