RAJOURI, Sept 17: Employees of Revenue Department in tehsil Kalakote are on strike for the last nine (9) days, causing lot of inconvenience to the public of the area while the district administration has been sleeping over the issue.
These employees went on strike after Tehsildar Kalakote Abdul Majid Tantray was allegedly manhandled by some women when he had gone to Mogla on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner where people were protesting after accidental death of a mine worker. The people had kept deadbody of the worker on the road and staged dharna on the road. No senior officers from JK Minerals Ltd paid visit there.
When Tehsildar was engaged in talks, some women agitators caught hold of Tehsildar and started him beating with blows. Even they locked the Tehsildar inside a room. This all happened in presence of two police inspectors including SHO Kalakote and incharge PP Taryath. However, later Tehsildar was rescued and then had to be shifted to hospital with chest pain as he was already heart patient.
Thereafter, expressing strong resentment against Police, the Revenue officials including Patwaris , Girdawars went on strike the next day. For the last nine days now they all have struck work. They are demanding action against cops and those involved in attack on Tehsildar. The District Administration, Rajouri has failed to act and resolve the issue.
Meanwhile,District president of Patwar Association Ch Abdul Ghani has strongly condemned the incident and warned the Administration to announce strike in the entire district if the District Police chief and Deputy Commissioner Rajouri failed to act within two days.
