JAMMU, July 14: Bali Bhagat, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Minister has slammed the National Conference (NC) president and former J&K Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah for advising the Union Government to initiate dialogue with Pakistan and win the hearts of the people of Kashmir Valley.
In a statement issued here, today, the senior BJP leader questioned Farooq Abdullah asking him that being the Chief Minister of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir State for maximum terms what had he done to win the hearts of the people of Kashmir. He asserted that the National Conference (NC) failed to win the hearts of Kashmiris because its leaders exploited people of Kashmir Valley for their personal motives. They made governance as the medium of looting the resources of J&K, misusing the funds coming from the Centre to fill in their personal coffers besides appointing their blue eyed at significant posts especially in the corporations and other bodies.
Bali Bhagat accused Farooq Abdullah of never being serious about the welfare and prosperity of Kashmiri people. He asked Dr Farooq to name at least one scheme that he brought during his CM tenure for the real welfare of people in letter and spirit. On the other hand BJP led Government has brought a slew of schemes for the welfare of all the sections of the people in Jammu and Kashmir and people in the Valley are reaping the benefits of such schemes.
The BJP leader said that it is the Kashmiri politicians who are responsible for Kashmir’s turmoil by misleading the gullible and innocent Kashmiris. He said how foolish it is that Farooq Abdullah has been repeatedly advocating for a dialogue with the rogue state Pakistan despite this neighbour continuing pushing in terrorists, weapons and even drugs into J&K and Punjab for conducting subversive activities here. He said that Farooq’s statements smell of his being a leader representing Pakistan and not India or the Kashmiris.
Bali Bhagat said Farooq Abdullah has also forgotten the 1987 elections when he was appointed the Chief Minister of erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir.
Bali Bhagat said that the election for the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir held on March 23 in 1987 is widely perceived to have been rigged which is believed to have led to the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said “It is widely agreed that the repression of the popular will in 1987 played a part in setting off the waves of militancy that flooded the State in the years that followed’.
