JAMMU, Sept 18: To improve the power scenario in the State, 30 towns will be taken in first phase under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) with focus on establishment of base line data, fixation of accountability, reduction of AT&C losses through strengthening & up-gradation of Sub Transmission and Distribution network and adoption of Information Technology.
This was informed by the Minister of State for Technical Education, Power and Information Vikar Rasool Wani after inaugurating newly augmented Receiving Station at Sainik Colony from 1 x 6.3 MVA to 2 x 6.3 MVA. The total capacity of 6.3 MVA Transformer of Receiving Station Sainik Colony is 330 Amps and completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1.23 crore.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the new 6.3 MVA transformer will provide relief to the people of the area from the problem of un-scheduled power cuts. He said that it was the long pending demand of the people of Sainik Colony and with the augmentation of receiving station by doubling its capacity, the demand of the people has been fulfilled. Mr Rasool exhorted on judicious use of power.
Among others who were present on the occasion function include Development Commissioner Power Asgar Ali, Chief Engineer EM& RE Wing Jammu Shahnez Goni, Superintending Engineer M & RE Circle -I Gurbachan Singh, Executive Engineer Syed Jamil Ahmed, AEE Bhanu Partap Singh, officers of PDD and locals.
Later, the Minister also inspected the ongoing construction work on Convention Centre at Hospitality and Protocol, Guest House Canal Road which would be completed at an estimated cost of Rs. 24.61 crore having an auditorium with a capacity of 450 besides seminar hall with sitting capacity of 200 people. The Convention Centre also has two small seminar halls having sitting capacity of 80 people each.
Accompanied by Director General Hospitality and Protocol S. S. Jamwal and other officers of the department, Mr. Vikar went round the entire complex and took stock of the progress of ongoing construction work. He directed the officers to complete the same before ending December this year.
Earlier, the Minister also reviewed the functioning of Rural Development Department in a meeting of officers.
