Effective mechanism in place to ensure transparency in development works: Sham

JAMMU, Sept 18: Minister for PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control, Sham Lal Sharma today said that an effective monitoring mechanism has been put in place to enforce accountability and transparency in the implementation of development works in the State.
This was stated by the Minister after reviewing the progress and road widening works at Fowara Chowk in  Akhnoor at an estimated cost of Rs.17 lakh. After the completion of this important work the people of the Akhnoor town will be relieved from the problem of traffic congestion, he added.
Mr. Sham asked the concerned authorities to ensure timely and quality completion of development works, adding that Government has resolved to provide concrete assets for the people across the State. He asked the executing agencies to put their sincere efforts in developing Akhnoor town and promote the places of  historical importance  to  further boost the tourist influx.
He said that development of Akhnoor town is receiving priority attention in the policy planning and various development projects like 200-bedded hospital, Mini-Secretariat, Bsc Nursing College, Ayurvedic College, Navodhya Vidhalaya, Jio Poto Gulab Singh Library and preservation of Akhnoor Fort and Ambaran are  in full swing.
Referring to works taken up at the right bank of river Chenab including Jio Poto Ghat, he said that the Central Government is  making every effort to restore the pristine glory of heritage sites and steps are being taken to showcase these to attract the tourist and increase their stay in the State, particularly the pilgrim tourists of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Ji and Shivkhori Shrine.
Later, the Minister visited village Mawa Khorara and addressed  a public meeting which was attended by large number of public representatives and locals.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Sham said that peace and progress with thrust on creation of economic activities and job opportunities is the main focus  of the Government. “We are working in tandem to mitigate difficulties of people and strengthen peace and stability in the State,” he said, adding that the impact of balanced development unleashed in the State during last four and half years is amply visible on ground.
Terming Panchayat institution as pivotal agency to create awareness about State and Centrally sponsored schemes, the Minister hoped that these institutions would leave no stone unturned in effective implementation of flagship programmes of the Government in their respective areas.
Among others, Commander GREF, S. M. Laganathan, Major, S. S. Thappa, Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Varinder Badyal, SE Hydraulic, Rajiv Malhotra, sectoral officers, block president, block youth president, Sarpanchs, Panchs were  present on the occasion.
