JAMMU, July 19: With Monsoon Session of Parliament set in and J&K Delimitation Commission report to be laid in both the Houses, the Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (PoJKLF) has demanded from the Centre to reserve at least 8 seats in J&K Assembly for their community.
The Front in a statement issued welcomed the J&K Delimitation Commission’s recommendation for nomination of representatives for the displaced community from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).
The statement further said that one third of the population had migrated during 1947 to the J&K and accordingly 24 Assembly seats have been kept on record for PoJK areas but the refugees have never been given political representation so far.
“Now, since the Union Ministry of Home Affairs is likely to table report of the Delimitation Commission in both Houses of the Parliament and the Union Cabinet has to clear the proposal first before it goes to the Parliament for debate and approval, we urge the Union Govt to give us adequate representation in the Legislative Assembly,” they said.
“We have learnt that Central Government is considering to give three to four nomination seats to the PoJK displaced persons on the ground that 24 constituencies have been reserved for PoJK people in the Assembly and nearly one-third population had migrated here in 1947. Though we are demanding for reservation of eight seats for PoJK refugees settled here, the seats under consideration are three to four,” they added.
The leaders of PoJKLF have demanded from the Modi Govt to give them a fair representation in Assembly and do not miss this opportunity to do justice with them.
