JAMMU, July 22: Expressing dismay over the non-issuance of formal orders regarding extension of time for entertaining claims of Displaced Persons (DPs) for the relief, despite lapse of four months of the announcement of extension by the Government, former MLC and senior Congress leader Ravinder Sharma has asked the Government to come out with orders extending the time besides status of total number of families received the claim.
Sharma criticized the inordinate delay in the issuance of formal orders alleging some vested interests in the administration seem to be behind this delay. He regretted that the UT administration and Centre Government are not serious about issues and genuine claims of DPs/refugees.
He said DPs were promised rupees 30 lakh per family besides reservations for their wards in Central forces and technical institutions but still all families were not covered under the meager relief of 5.5 lakh and the scheme was closed. The former MLC said the announcement for extension was made following criticism by him and Congress party besides the refugee organizations but still formal orders are not issued.
The Congress leader sought immediate issuance of orders of extension of relief scheme and sanction of remaining amount of 24.50 lakh per family of DPs and refugees besides considering revision of the financial package of 2014 due to more than double price escalations.
