Col Mahan visits Plach, Nagali to assess flood damages

BASOHLI, July 23: District Development Council (DDC) Kathua Chairman, Col (Retd) Mahan Singh conducted an extensive tour of Plach and Nagali in Sialag area (Sheetal Nagar block) to assess the damage caused to houses, crops and roads due to the abrupt flash floods as a result of cloudburst in adjoining high reaches of Hul Bani region.
Prominent among others accompanied the DDC Chairman were Darshan Singh, Sarpanch Nagali Anant Ram, Sarpanch Seema Devi, Sarpanch Saman Davinder Singh, Sarpanch Ghagrore Rajinder Singh and Ex Sarpanch Hans Raj.
Col. Mahan Singh soon after reaching the area conducted an interaction session with the people during which he was apprised of the issues and problems due to flash floods after a cloudburst. They highlighted the issues of heavy damage to the houses due to which some people have been rendered homeless while there has been extensive damage to the crops in the area. They further brought to the notice of the team led by DDC that the roads in the area have suffered a lot of damage and are in a highly dilapidated condition. This natural calamity has resulted in disruption in power and drinking water supplies they lamented.
They demanded that J&K administration should immediately send a team of Revenue Department and other officials for proper assessment of damages to determine adequate compensation to the victims of this weather vagary.
Col Mahan Singh listened to the grievances of the people and assured them of getting their pressing issues addressed at the earliest by taking up the issues with the concerned department and officials.
Asserting that BJP stands committed to overall development of every area especially the remote and border areas, he said that he will continue to work for the people’s welfare 24X7 and ensure that the life of common man is made most comfortable in every nook and corner of these border villages. But presently the issue of providing relief to the flood affected people is the top priority, he added.
Meanwhile, the DDC Chairman directed the BJP workers activists remain present among the people affected by the recent flash flood and help them in confronting the problems till they are provided some relief by the administration.
