DSS discusses poor maintenance of historic monuments

SAMBA, July 25: A meeting of prominent citizens was today organised under the aegis of Dogra Sadar Sabha (DSS) Samba at Veer Bhumi Park here which was presided over by Inder Singh, president Shri Amar Kshatriya Rajput Sabha Samba.
Gulchain Singh Charak, Ex-Minister was chief guest while Shiv Charan Singh Sambyal, president DSS Samba was guest of honour.
Speakers in the meeting expressed concern over poor approach of the Government towards maintenance of historical monuments of Jammu region.
A mention of State Protected Monuments like Fort of Samba was made and the speakers claimed that the already crumbling structures of our heritage are under threat during monsoon rains and the concerned authorities are in slumber.
Similarly, Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex at Jammu came under discussion and the speakers stated that repair and restoration works of the complex has been unnecessarily delayed.
Earlier Charak and Shiv Charan Singh along with others visited the Fort of Samba and said that unauthorized constructions inside the monument and its crumbling walls were belying tall claims of the administration regarding efforts to protect monuments of the region.
The speakers also expressed concern over increasing road accidents on national highway and on rural roads.
After this rich tributes were paid to Maharaja Hari Singh and the martyrs.
Prominent among those who spoke on the occasion were Amardeep Singh, president Civil Society Samba; Ravinder Singh, Sarpanch; Ravi Khajuria, Councillor and President Brahman Mahasabha Samba and others. Chajju Singh Katal and Bishan Singh ‘Dardi’, famous poets of Samba recited their poems and vote of thanks was presented by Chanchal Singh.
