SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Over 600 fresh recruits were inducted as constables in the Border Security Force (BSF) after the passing out parade at its training centre in Humhama on the outskirts of the city today.
The 623 recruits included 329 from Rajasthan, 76 from Uttar Pradesh, 70 from Haryana, 59 from Bihar and 26 from Jammu and Kashmir, P S Sandhu, Inspector General BSF, Kashmir Frontier, who inspected the parade said.
During the 24-week rigorous basic training involving physical fitness and mental robustness, the cadets were imparted training in counter-insurgency, anti-terrorism, commando operations, field engineering, field craft and minor tactics.
Speaking on the occasion, Sandhu said, “BSF has always been at the forefront providing security to people…Give them (BSF) any task – be that on Line of Control (LoC) or border or in Northeast or Naxal-affected areas, the jawans are always ready.”
The subsidiary training centre in Humhama has so far trained 13,450 recruits and 3,557 Group “C” staff, which include 1,913 Kashmiri youth, some of them surrendered militants, who are now performing their duty in various parts of the country, a BSF spokesperson said.
The training centre was established on June 10, 1990 to impart basic training to recruits and cater to the training needs of the force in Kashmir.
