HC pulls up revenue authorities for non-cooperation

SRINAGAR, Sept 20: High Court today pulled up the revenue authorities of district Ganderbal for their “non-cooperation” in removing of illegal constructions along the river Sindh.
A Division Bench of the HC comprising Chief Justice M M Kumar and Justice D S Thakur after hearing a Public Interest Litigation seeking removal of illegal construction along the directed the authorities of the district administration to issue show cause notices to Zubair Ahmad and Zaid Zubair for constructing illegal structures near the river.
The Advocate General M I Qadri submitted an affidavit filed by Chief Engineer Irrigation and Flood Control, Kashmir, in compliance of the earlier court direction.
The affidavit pointed out show cause notices has been served on the persons who have raised seven illegal constructions in violation of the JK Water Resources Management Act (2010), giving them 15 days to reply.
“Chief Executive Officer Sonamarg and Pahalgam Development Authorities have been requested not to permit any construction in and around river Sindh and River Lidder respectively,” the affidavit mentioned.
The affidavit also pointed out the revenue authorities were not cooperating when they were requested to provide material about the constructions.
