Srinagar, July 28: Government employees who retired this year are yet to receive their gratuity and Gross Provident Fund as there is no money with the treasuries for the last three months.
The employees who retired since March this year are yet to receive their pension and gratuity.
An employee said that his daughter is getting married next month and was banking upon his hard earned money for the marriage.
“Whenever I visit the Treasury, the Treasurer Officer says they have got no money since April this year for GP Fund and gratuity,” he said.
Another Government official who retired in January this year has got his GP Fund but gratuity is pending.
“I have to send my son overseas for education and there is no money in the treasury. Now, I applied for a bank loan when my own money is with the Government,” he said.
The Director Treasuries, Abdul Hamid Kumar, told Excelsior that they have no money for paying GP Fund and gratuity.
“We have raised the issue with the Director General Accounts and Treasuries and are waiting for the money”, he said.
Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) urged the Government to release payment of these retired government employees.
“Even many of these employees use this money for construction purposes and even for educational activities for their children but due to shortage of money they are not able to perform such tasks and are forced to postpone marriage ceremonies and other important activities due to which these employees are facing a lot of trouble”, the EJAC said.
The EJAC urged Government especially Chief Secretary and Financial Commissioner, Finance to personally intervene in the matter and release payment from the treasury bills so that these suffering employees could have a sigh of relief.
