JAMMU, July 29: India’s first free 2-day CME cum workshop on ‘Cancer Pain Interventions & Palliative Care’ concluded today at Government Hospital (GH), Gandhi Nagar.
Organized by Directorate of Health Services Jammu in collaboration with Indian Association of Palliative Care (IAPC), the CME was inaugurated yesterday by Director Health Services (DHS) Jammu Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman in presence of Dr Sushma Bhatnagar (HoD, Pain and Palliative Care, AIIMS New Delhi) and Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial (Medical Superintendent, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu) and Dr Rohit Lahori (organizing secretary of the CME).
The theme of the Conference was “There is always a hope in Palliative care”. The faculty members from Premier Medical Institutes of the country had joined in to train the delegates from various institutes.
On Day 1, the team of experts including Dr Samarjit Dey (Incharge Pain Clinic AIIMS Manglagiri, Andhra Pradesh), Dr Sunny Malik (Consultant Incharge, Department of Anaesthesia Pain and Palliative Medicine, Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Centre, New Delhi), Dr Dhruv Bibra (Senior Consultant Pain Medicine, Delhi Pain Management Centre), Dr Prateek Arora (Clinical Lead for Pain and Palliative Division, AIIMS Raipur), Dr Vamshidhar Chamala (Assistant Professor, Department of Anaesthesia, AIIMS Manglagiri), Dr Ravi Shankar Sharma (Department of Anaesthesia, AIIMS Rishikesh, Dr Indubala Maurya (Department of Anaesthesia, Kalyan Singh Super Speciality Cancer Institute, Lucknow), Dr Lokvendra Singh Budania (Associate Professor, Kalpana Chawla GMC Karnal, Haryana) and Dr Rohit Lahori (Nodal Officer, Pain and Palliative Care, UT of J&K) demonstrated the live cases which was relayed from Operation Theatre to the Conference Hall which was a unique way of demonstration in itself.
The CME/workshop was attended by delegates from all over the country as well as from GMC Jammu, AIIMS Jammu, ASCOMS and all the districts of Jammu Province. The Consultants and Medical Officers of Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar (Jammu) also attended the workshop.
On Day 2, Jammu Cool Radio frequency pain procedure was done for chronic knee pain at Government Hospital Gandhinagar, Jammu. The procedure was done by Cool Radio frequency provided by AVNOS for this conference. Pertinently, this is the first time that such a procedure has been performed in Jammu.
On the occasion, a book titled ‘Management of Bio-medical Waste’ was released by Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman along with CMO Jammu Dr Harbaksh Singh and other dignitaries. The book has been written by Dr Narinder Singh Bhatial (MS, Government Hospital, Gandhi Nagar, Jammu).
