JMC seizes 13 kg SUP, fines violators

JAMMU, July 29: As per directions of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) Commissioner, a team of Health Section of JMC including Sanitation Officers, Assistant Sanitation Officers, Sanitary Inspectors and Sanitary Supervisors of JMC conducted an intensive drive to check the illegal use of Single Use Plastic (SUP) in all the three zones of Jammu.
During the drive the inspecting team seized 13 kg SUP and imposed a fine of Rs. 16,500 on the violators at B.C Road, Rajinder Bazar, Bantalab, Bahu Plaza and Gangyal.In a handout, the Health Officer of JMC has appealed to the public of Jammu to extend cooperation in curbing the illegal use of SUP which is a penalizing offence under Solid Waste Management Rules 2016.
“JMC hoped to meet the challenge together with the general public to make environment sustainable and eco-friendly,” the Health Officer stated.
