SHIMLA/KEYLONG, Sept 21: Ten persons, including eight members of a family from Jammu, were killed while another was critically injured when a vehicle carrying them fell 2000 feet down into a rivulet near Rohli in Lahaul and Spiti district today.
The cab carrying eleven persons from Kishtwar in Jammu area was on its way back after offering worship at famous Trilokinath and Trikula Mata temples when the accident took place near Rohli, 45Km from Udaipur in Lahaul valley.
The deceased consisted of four men, including the driver of the vehicle, four women and two children.
The deceased were identified as Sher Singh and his family members hailing from Thumb village in Kishtwar area of Jammu and the driver of the vehicle.
The information about the accident reached very late as the spot was in a remote area and mobile phones were not working due to network problem.
Deputy Commissioner of Lahaul and Spiti Beer Singh Thakur told reporters over phone that nine bodies have been retrieved so far and search is on for the tenth body. The wreckage of the Tata Sumo vehicle has been located.
Local people reached the spot, traced the vehicle and recovered the bodies of the deceased from downstream the rivulet in a treacherous terrain and informed the administration.
On receiving information, the district administration rushed rescue teams and the lone injured person was admitted to hospital at Keylong and his condition was stated to be critical. (AGENCIES)
