Charak Jayanti celebrated with fervor at Govt Ayurvedic Hospital

JAMMU, Aug 3: Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Indira Chowk (Jammu) under the aegis of Directorate of Ayush, J&K celebrated Charak Jayanti with fervor and gaiety.
Maharishi Charak is also known as “Father of Indian Medicine” and redactor of Ayurvedic Compendium of Indian Medicine- Charak Samhita. According to historians, Maharishi Charak lived in Kashmir region of Indian sub-continent between 2 BC- 2AD during the reign of Kanishka kingdom.
Dr Mohan Singh, Director Ayush J&K presided over the function as chief guest while Dr Rakesh Raina (Assistant Director Ayurveda, Ayush), Dr Vandana Dogra (Medical Superintendent, Government Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu), Dr Suresh Sharma (District Ayush Officer Jammu) and Dr Aruna Bhat (Deputy Medical Superintendent, GAH Jammu) were also present.
In the backdrops of the program on Charak Jayanti, Director Ayush inaugurated ‘Charak Aushad Vatika’ (medicinal herbal garden) to pay green tributes to Maharishi Charak. On the occasion, a quiz competition on Charak Samhita was also organized wherein Ayurveda students participated in the program and also recited various shlokas from Charak Samhita.
The program was also attended by the veteran medical officers of the department who participated in the program. After the lightening of holy lamp and paying floral tributes to Acharya Charak, Director Ayush highlighted the contributions of Achraya Charka in the propagation of holistic health through Ayurveda.
He also expressed that Charak Samhita is the work of past which is contextual in present day health care scenario. He also urged students and medical officers Ayush to apply and practice Charak Samhita in their daily practice so that, we all can contribute in making India a healthy and strong nation.
Presidential address was followed by a Charak Oath ceremony in which the Ayush medical officers, students and veterans took Charak Oath to practice the principles of Charak for providing best of the health care facilities to the patients.
The program concluded with the felicitation of the winners of Quiz. The program was coordinated by Dr Lotika Bharti, Ayush Medical Officer.
