POONCH, Aug 3: JKPCC general secretary and DDC Member from Surankote- A constituency Shahnawaz Choudhary along with Sarpanches, Panches and locals sat on indefinite strike at Surankote against LG administration demanding compensation for flood victims and declaration of recent flash floods in district Poonch as a disaster.
He demanded immediate relief from LG administration through State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF). Shahnawaz demanded immediate constitution of a high level committee which can access the loss of victims and also requested administration to waive off loans of farmers who have suffered huge losses in the recent flash floods.
Speaking on the occasion, Shahnawaz Choudhary said that around 200 + pucca houses, 150 + shops got damaged due to recent flash floods and no one from administration cared to help these affected families. Victims were left with nothing to eat and locals came to their rescue.
He further said that indefinite strike will continue untill our demands are met.
Meanwhile, DC Poonch Inderjeet visited Surankote today and met some officials and reviewed the damage caused to the public property during flood three days ago. He left the town after some time.
Later, the flood victims held strong protest against DC in the main market at Surankote alleging that he did not meet, the victims and local public representatives. Even he did not visit the affected localities. They raised slogans against District administration.
The prominent people who sat on dharna with DDC member were were Sarpanch Association district president Sikander Noorani, Sarpanch Association president Surankote Waheed Shah, Sarpanches Tahir Mirza, Haleem Khan, Niaz Ahmed, Mohd Bashir, Fida Hussain Shah, Mohd Azam, advocate Sheraz Bajar, Youth leaders Irshad Qazi, Sikander Hayat, Mudassar Ahmed, Asif Bajar, Ajaz Chouhan, Anjum Hamdani and several civil society members.
