JAMMU, Aug 4: An Army jawan, who was killed due to landslide near China border, was cremated with full military honours at Rangpur village of tehsil RS Pura here today.
Rifleman Sukhjinder Singh (23), son of Paramjeet Singh, a resident Suchetgarh at present Ward Number 7 RS Pura District Jammu was killed as he fell into a deep gorge after being hit by the boulder falling from a hill following a landslide near the India-China border in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district.
There was mourning in the village after hearing the news of Rifleman Sukhjinder Singh death.
The mortal remain of the jawan was brought to his residence in RS Pura in a procession in a decorated Army vehicle.
People along the route gathered in large numbers and shouted slogans, “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”, ” Hamaray Shaheed Amar Rahen” and “Vande Matram”.

The heart rendering scenes were witnessed in the area as neither his family nor relatives and the villagers had ever thought that soldier Sukhjinder Singh will not come alive from his place of posting.
Soon after hearing the news, the relatives and other villagers rushed to soldier’s residence and tried to console the grief stricken family members who were sobbing and wailing and could not understand what has happened to their son.
Mourning the death of his young son, Army Captain (Retd) Paramjeet Singh said Sukhjinder had joined the Army more than two years ago and this was his first posting. He was at home on leave and had joined duty over a month back, he added.
The wailing family members and relatives received the coffin wrapped in ‘Tri-colour’ and after conducting rituals performed the last rites at village Rangpur in Tehsil RS Pura this morning.
A large number of people including Army, Civil and Police officers attended the last rites which was performed with full military honours.
