Intra-state vehicle lifter arrested with 6 stolen motorcycles: SSP

KATHUA, Aug 6: Police arrested an intra-state vehicle lifter along with 6 stolen motorcycles.
This was informed by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kathua Romesh Kotwal while interacting with media persons here today.
Divulging the details, SSP said that a joint team from Police Station Lakhanpur and Police Post Basantpur apprehended one intra-state vehicle lifter, while hunt is going on to nab his brother.
“The arrested person was identified as Mohd Altaf, son of late Peer Mohd Shah of Dungara Tehsil Billawar District Kathua, while his brother has been identified as Alkaz alias Sonu”, SSP said, adding that both the accused used to steal vehicles and later sell them on cheaper rates.
During sustained questioning, the arrested accused confessed his involvement in vehicle theft cases in the jurisdictions of Police Stations Lakhanpur and Billawar, SSP Romesh Kotwal said, adding that 6 motorcycles of worth Rs 7.25 lakh were recovered by police teams of Police Station Lakhanpur and Police Post Basantpur under the guidance of DySP DAR Kathua.
With the arrest of this accused, two theft cases of Police Station Billawar and Police Station Lakhanpur were solved, SSP said, adding that the interrogation of the arrested accused is going on as it is expected that he will disclose many links, which may lead to recovery of more stolen vehicles.
