Damaged school building posing threat to lives of kids

MENDHAR, Aug 6: Damaged in recent flash flood, school building in the remote village Jugal of Mendhar sub-division is posing threat to lives of students.
According to the reports, the a wall of the Primary School Mehra Dhara Bhattiyan, located in Bhati Dhaar Jugal village was washed away in the recent flash flood following incessant rain in the area.
Established in 2008, this Primary School has enrollment of 30 students from class I to V and two teachers are posted there. Due to the flash flood in the adjoining Nallah, three school toilets, one class room, desks and other items were washed away.
Local residents Mohammad Azeem, Mohammad Rehman and others said that the school building has been badly damaged and because of this they were not sending their children to the school. The villagers have demanded shifting of the school from the present building because of its location adjoining the Nallah, which will continue to pose threat.
Abdul Qayoom, the Cluster Head teacher of the schools said that the matter has been brought into the notice of the higher authorities.
JK-BADC Chairman and former Vice Chancellor Dr Shahzad Ahmed Malik has appealed Lieutenant Governor J&K that the schools building in the flood zone should be shifted and the damage done in this school should be compensated.
