Young Panthers appeals JU not to close Buddhist Studies Deptt

JAMMU, Sept 24: Young Panthers have appealed Jammu University not to close down the Department of Buddhist Studies where not even five students were admitted this session, which is the minimum requirement to run a department in the University.
In a meeting with the students of Buddhist community, Pushvinder Manhas senior vice-president of Young Panthers, alleged that the University was planning to close down the Department of Buddhist Studies under a well planned conspiracy by setting extremely tough JUET paper so that admission seekers could not qualify the same.
Manhas raised a question mark on introducing JUET for admissions in JU where the students were being declared not qualified but the seats of various departments are lying vacant.  This is the loss of the student community and neither students nor JU is going to benefit through these vacant seats, he added.
Manhas disclosed  that in his meeting with the VC few days back, the latter categorically told him that the University  was  going to shut the department of Buddhist Studies and he had  backing from higher ups for the same.
Young panthers will not allow the VC to succeed in his agenda and we have decided to write a letter to Bodhguru  Dalai Lama seeking his intervention into the matter, Pushvinder said and also appealed Governor N N Vohra to stop the University from  promoting  this anti-Bodh agenda.
Others who spoke in the meeting, included  Tsering  Dorjey, Banzan,  Rinzing, Doryu, Gomin and  Butsuju.
