SRINAGAR Aug 17: Taking serious note of the move of the Government with regard to voting rights to the outsiders in J&K, former MLA and senior CPI (M) leader Mohd Yousuf Tarigami today said that what Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has said amounts to disenfranchising the people of Jammu and Kashmir further.
In a press statement issued here today, Tarigami said the delimitation process through Re-organisation Act was an attempt to change the electoral demography of the region .
In the absence of any representative government in J&K, the Union Government has been exercising undiluted control in the region through a bureaucratic structure since June 2018. Today’s statement of CEO is a brazen assault on the legitimate aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the CPI(M) leader asserted.
