KATRA, Sept 25: With the indefinite strike of `Safai Karamcharis’ of Municipal Committee Katra, the civic condition in the holy town of Mata Vaishno Devi has been badly hit.
The Safai workers of the MC Katra are on strike for the last 17 days in support of their demands. Nearly 166 workers of the MC went on strike on September 9. They are demanding regularization and filling up the vacant posts as per seniority list. They also demanded filling up of 36 vacant posts of MC Katra in transparent manner. They said casual and daily rated workers engaged from 1994 onwards be accommodated on the permanent basis as per requirement. They warned to continue their strike till the Executive Officer assures them regarding reddresal of their demand.
Meanwhile, due to ongoing strike, the Katra streets have turned into dumping ground and pilgrims and locals are facing lot of hardships. The drains have choked and heaps of garbages are giving foul smell all around.
